Restaurant of the week: Restoran Josic

In the small Slavonian village of Zmajavac, several wine cellars hide away in a hill, half buried underground. Traditionally, locals store wine here because the temperature is ideal – always between 11 and 15 degrees Celcius. It is in one of these tunnel-like wine cellars that Restoran Josic serves hearty Slavonian cuisine, like spicy Hungarian stews flavored with paprika, smoked fish, roasted venison, and beef goulash.


Josic is, fittingly, also an award-winning winery. The restaurant’s tasting room allows for a pre-dinner drink, and several wines are available, including popular local varieties like grasevina.
