Gracisce to welcome another Festival of Istrian Manestra
Bringing a spoon during a visit to the Istrian village of Gracisce might be a good idea on June 15th. This is when the settlement’s main square becomes the site of a unique festival, dedicated to the region’s much loved food called manestra.
The dish is basically a vegetable stew whose main ingredient is corn and local herbs. However, it can be served as a main dish, in which case it even features meat — usually chopped bacon.
What else can be found in a plate of manestra? Come to Gracisce and see for yourself. There will be more than one kind of the stew to try, and don’t forget to drink some rakija as an appetizer. And if you can’t make it, don’t worry. The Festival of Istrian Manestra is organized several times a year.
